Water level measurements

Water level measurements in Grote Beek, Belgium

To measure is to know! Throughout the project, we investigate how the groundwater level fluctuates. We do this using water wells with loggers measuring the water level every hour. In total, as many as 45 such loggers have been placed throughout the valley! We know that the groundwater sinks deeply in some places in summer, but now we are going to know exactly how deep and when it starts lowering. Differences between day and night will also be measured. This knowledge is needed to unravel the complex hydrological system of this lowland fens and take highly targeted measures to restore the peat.
