Start of the Multi Peat Terrain-Team in Grote Beek, Belgium

On 1 March 2023, the real restoration works within LIFE Multi Peat officially started. Therefore, a small field team of 2 men started the peat restoration works. The Multi Peat field team already has a lot of experience in peat restoration and, thanks to their accumulated site knowledge, a number of new machines and a lot of enthusiasm, they will help to restore the valley of the Grote Beek to one of Flanders' most beautiful peat areas. Besides restoring the hydrology, the vegetation will also be restored and developed back to real peat vegetation such as small sedge vegetation, alder swamp forests and marsh grasslands. To this end, tree shoots will be removed from the open areas, open areas will be mowed, exotic species (such as Black cherry, Northern red oak and Himalayan Balsam) will be controlled and all kinds of old structures will be removed from the area.
