Paludiculture

Discover the Future of Degraded Peatlands: Our Paludiculture Flyer is Here!

Wet peatlands are fascinating ecosystems with immense importance for climate, water, biodiversity, and much more. However, drainage and agricultural use have degraded a large portion of peatlands, leading to the loss of ecosystem services and even turning them into a significant source of greenhouse gas emissions. We need to rethink! The question is: How can we use degraded peatlands sustainably, reduce emissions, and enhance their ecosystem services at the same time? The answer is paludiculture – an innovative form of agriculture on rewetted peatlands.

Our new flyer provides an introduction to paludiculture and shows why it is not only beneficial for the climate but also opens up economic opportunities. Here, you’ll learn which peatlands are suitable, what types of biomasses can be grown, and the various utilization options available.

And that’s not all: With LIFE Multi Peat, we are already implementing paludiculture on project sites in Germany and Belgium. Our goal is to test the feasibility on our sites, gather insights, and share what we’ve learned with stakeholders. This way, we aim to increase interest and understanding of paludiculture, demonstrate its practical applicability, and establish the first paludiculture sites.

The flyer is currently available in German only. An English version is in the works and will be released soon. Want to learn more about paludiculture? Download the flyer now!
